Guides and walkthroughs

A guide can get you past a hard part, but it can also ruin the fun if you read too much. In this section we explain the types of guides, how to use them selectively and spoiler-free, and how to tell whether a guide was written for the current version of the game. This is also where the catalogue of standalone Fffuuu articles lives.

The best guide is the one you close as soon as you know what to do next.

— Editor's note

How this section works: we explain how to choose and read guides, and we don't retell game stories. The catalogue only features articles that can be checked against official sources and the game itself.

Types of guides

Five kinds of guides players run into most often.

Walkthrough

A start-to-finish account of the game. Handy if you're lost, but it has the most spoilers: read only the chapter you need.

Boss guide

A breakdown of a single fight: enemy attacks, fight phases, safe moments to strike. Useful when you're stuck at one specific spot.

Tips and mechanics

Build guide

How to develop your character: which skills and gear work well together. Builds go out of date especially quickly after patches.

Collectibles guide

Where to find secrets, items and achievements. Usually opened after the main playthrough to mop up whatever you missed.

Beginner's guide

Covers the basics: controls, interface, early decisions. Great at the start of a game and almost free of story spoilers.

Gaming terms

Article catalogue for English-language readers

This section will feature standalone Fffuuu articles written for English-speaking players. They are written with that audience in mind and are not translations of articles from other language versions of the site.

Topics our editors are planning

  • How to approach your first boss in a game known for its difficulty
  • Assist and accessibility modes: what they change and how to turn them on
  • Reading patch notes in online games: what to look for after a balance update
  • Playing online safely: protecting your account from phishing and bans

Editorial rules

  • Articles in this catalogue are written separately for each language version and are not translations.
  • Some articles link to third-party websites, including gaming services; we do not control their content, prices or terms.
  • We do not publish unverifiable ratings of games or services, prices or reviews.

How to use a guide without spoilers

  1. Pin down your question

Decide exactly what you need: how to beat a particular boss, where to go next or where to find an item. The more precise the question, the less you'll read by accident.

  2. Use the table of contents

Open the guide's contents and jump straight to the section you need instead of scrolling through everything.

  3. Don't look at images in advance

Screenshots and video thumbnails often reveal more than the text. Scroll slowly and read only what you need.

If you're looking for the way to the next area, skip any thumbnail showing the final boss.

  4. Take one hint

Read the first tip and try it yourself. It's often enough, and the rest is more fun to discover in the game.

  5. Close the guide

Once you're past the hard part, go back to playing without the guide. That way you keep the joy of the discoveries ahead.

How to check a guide isn't outdated

  • See which version of the game the guide was written for and compare it with the one you have installed
  • Check the publication date and when the guide was last updated
  • Open the official patch notes and look for changes to the area, item or skill described
  • Pay attention to the platform: controls and some details may differ between consoles and PC
  • If the guide's advice doesn't match what you see in the game, it was most likely written for a different version
  • Tips and mechanics

Core mechanics of hard games, a boss fight breakdown, difficulty and accessibility settings, and account rules.

  • Game updates

New and updated reference sections, how to read patch notes, and announced game release dates.

  • Reviews

How to read someone else's review of a hard game and tell facts apart from the author's opinion.

Sources

  • Official websites of developers and publishers

Game information is based on the official websites of developers and publishers. Release dates, update contents and game rules change, so always check them with official sources.
